you could put a 4l80E in it, itll be stronger... Umm they used to make stick shift 2 door tahoes and yukons. youll see one everyonce in a while. But if you could get a wrecked on of those that would help ya out the most.. or else order everything from GM classic or something...

im not sure how much "stronger it is", but i believe you still have to change over a bunch of stuff to make that turbod one work...

Not sure you would like going to a three speed trans. If you now have 4 wheel drive, you need to make sure the tail shaft will mate to your transfer case.

The linkage to the shifter might have to be modified and you will need a TV cable hooked to the throttle to control the trans.

Seems to me it would be a lot cheaper and less hassle to just rebuild the existing trans and call it good. :)

I believe it would fit but the problems are a non electronic controlled tranny swapped on place of a electronic model is the big issue. You asked if it would be stronger...... Hell Yeah... The TH400 was built to take the beatings of a big block motor. TH400 are highly sought after, Even blown 400s bring in good money as they are easily rebuilt.

Hi all In all actuality the turbo is 400 trans is tougher than the 350 because of the internals but somethings have to be done to the 400 trans to make it shift like the 350 plus the 400 trans will shift itself out of first if you take it high in the rpm band because of how it is programmed be valve body internals plus the bolt up to the case I think is different shaft size and splines and the overdrive missing will be an issue after time and the 400 doesnt have a lock up converter and the sprag on some of the 400 are weak so you shouldnt do a hard core burnout in first and expect to go to second without tearing it out after a while I think I would rethink the 400 trans and maybe rebuild what you have just a thought.....
