tranny or rearend?

I was driving my '01' tahoe today and while i was getting on it when it shifted from 1st to 2nd it made a loud noise and came to a rolling stop but when parked i put it in D,3,2,and 1st you can hear sh*t clanking around and wont move forward but when I put it in reverse it moves forward.When it's in park or neutral you can't hear anything clanking around. Also you can push it forward but not backwards in neutral. Unfortunately my tranny guy just retired after 30 yrs in the biz. its a built 46Le w/presicion t/c w/2000 stall, corvette servos, kevlar band and more ,stock rearend,523tq hp 418 to the wheels,74mm presicion front mount turbo @ 11lbs w/75shot up to 8lbs of boost. any feedback would be greatly appreciated

ya sounds like the tranny. I think thats a lot of power to be puting to even a built 4l60e.

Yeah that's a lot of power, what with a turbo and N2O, etc, and it sounds like you've got a wasted transmission. Out of all the mods you mentioned you didn't say anything about an improved sun shell. That's what usually breaks on the 4L60E, and even if it was beefed up it could still break under all that power. My vote goes to a broken sun shell (could be more too), it kind of holds some of the parts in place, and could explain why your shifts end up in next or other positions, as there's a lot of play in there now. I'm no tranny pro but that's what I think.

Oh that really sucks... Major bummer.

Since it still moves when you put it in reverse and not otherwise, the bet is on the tranny. While you're having the tranny rebuilt, you may want to look into putting a heavy duty rear end in there too otherwise it will frag as well.

Thanks for the insight people,the rear end was the next on the list to do but I guess ill have to do the tranny rearend all at once. I aslo have 22" three piece asanti's wheels and 3 12" subs also so i'm sure the extra weight doesn't help either. Any recomendations on what type a tran i should look into?
