I just had my transfer case rebuilt, got it back Friday. I drove it to Indy this weekend for the NHRA Nationals and I tried to use the tow/ haul mode while going up some hills and it never changed my shift points nor did my little tow/ haul mode light come on on the dash. Anybody got any ideas before I call the shop back tomorrow?

Thanks, Wayne

Thanks, I went and talked to a friend at the Chevy dealership today and that's what he thought too. He didn't see where anything they had done while rebuilding the transfer case could have caused this issue. I mentioned "orange wire" and he said yea it's orange LOL. Glad I joined this forum.

My mechanic told me I should pull the shifter boot off from the steering column and I would see the orange wire in there. I actually ordered a new boot from gmpartsnow.com for 20 bucks and the column cover set because mine wasn't staying snapped together. I'm planning on tearing in to it this weekend. Can post back next week and let you know what I found. But that should give you a starting point.

the wire comes off the shift lever and is actually two fine wires inside an orange insulation. the wire breaks near the hold down points due to stress from shifting the lever. Its a tricky repair but but not impossible. I also left the wire hang free to give it better ability to move when I shift the lever.

I also did mine yesterday. My Hanes book didn't tell me that there is a funky bolt that holds the top cover on. It looks like a male torx. You have to have the bottom cover off to get to it. I did get a 4mm socket on it to take the broken piece out ;-P. I went back with a regular screw. this bolt is just between the key switch and the steering wheel. Other than that it was a pretty simple fix. Fortunately I had new covers to install.
