 My Tahoe has close to 13000 miles on it now and it should be broken in good by now. I don't want to do burn outs but i do like everything i own to run hard when i want it to. And yes i did try taking off with the traction control off, it felt the same to me. When i got the Tahoe i broke it in the way the manual said to and then took a 2500 mile road trip and backed that up with another 2500 mile trip towing our trailer with two heavy Harleys in it. That trip really put the fit and finish on the engine because everyday it ran better and better and also the MPG went up. I still think this is one of the best trucks i have ever owned and am very proud of it. Thanks for all of your input, i will ask my dealer if they can tickle the EMC a little. :Chevy:

I would highly suggest NOT asking your dealer that question!!! :nonod: He'll right away assume you want to "hot rod" it, and I could see future problems for you if you develop any drivetrain issues, since they can claim abuse.

All of the manufacturers are using torque management, it's just a way for them to make their parts last longer...95% of the people out there will never know the difference, either. But for us 5% who do, yeah, it's kinda frustrating not to have immediate access to all the power we paid for! I remember my GTO, it had it, but I had a tuner reprogram it and it made a huge difference. I'd say if you really want it changed, go to a professional tuner and have them do it...and make sure you ask them if they will put it back to "stock" for you (most will not charge for this) in case you need dealership work.

You also have to remember, the 5.3L is not exactly a torque monster, especially down low...what rear end ratio do you have? You could go to 4.10s, which would help, or go even deeper if you don't care about highway fuel mileage...going with deeper gears would have the greatest effect, without fooling with tq converters, etc...

If you go with the Diablo Predator Sport it has TM options on it so you can reduce the percentage. I think I am going to get one of these and see if it helps. It feels like I am pulling an anchor until I hit about 20 MPH, it sucks!

Yeah i know all about wiesel clauses. I worked at GM dealships in the early 80 as a manager and saw first hand how they would worm there way out of repairing the junk they were building. We could repair most things but we could not re-engineer the car. Now they build a great product but its now without some issues. I remember the Old Firebirds had a lock up converter that made them feel really fast for the first 200 ft or so and then they fell on there face. I have been retired from the auto trade for over ten years and have not kept up on the new stuff so its a new learning curve for me. Thanks for all of your help and comments.

sluggish Tahoe

I felt like my Tahoe was also sluggish from a dead stop so I installed a Stage II AFE cold air intake and a Gibson Exhaust. It definitely helped. In the next week or three, I'll be ordering the headers from Gibson as well which should make a difference. I've thought about buying a programmer but I'm hesitant to mess with that.

We all know that its air in and air out but with the computer running the game now i am lost when it comes to performance. Let us know how this works out for you and also what kind of MPG you get after its all done.

I can tell you right now with the air intake and exhaust I've seen maybe 1-2 MPG increase but the combination of the two mods sounds so good I have a tough time keeping my foot out of the gas. As far as MPG after adding the headers, I talked to Shawn Gibson and he said I may get up to 1-2 MPG increase with the headers. I will let you know.

Now thats what i am talking about. I put a cam and headers on a Toyota 4 runner because it was such a stone and it never helped much. I hated thay vehicle and would never again buy a Jap car or truck. No power, and no room.

Richard,

I had an 03 Tahoe Z71 for years and know what you mean about it dragging off the start. I had my PCM tuned and as soon as I punched it, the power was there. People were amazed. I wouldn't waste my time on the Tuner's, I would have the PCM programmed. I had my done by Justin @ BlackBear Performance. http://www.blackbearperformance.com/

He is one of the best out there for tunes, and offers a reasonable price. I would definitely get in touch with him. I replaced my Tahoe with an 07 Denali, so I am waiting for him to get the tune for that and tweak it. He can adjust it to where I have more power than the Escalade. Let me know if you have any questions.

My hoe has 3.73 gears and they seem about right for the power curve. I would not want any taller tires unless i had the 4.10 gears. My engine RPM is 2100 at 70 and that seems to be the sweet spot for MPG.
