Do any of you guys know how one can get the 5.3 to light up from a dead start. It seems to run hard after the first fifty feet but is a slug until then. I guess i could power brake it and see what happens but its so new i hate to do that.

In case you didn't know....or notice....you bought a heavy azz SUV. Now, why would you want to or need to burn out with it??? Trade it in and by a sports car........

Yeah i know its heavy but it still bogs out of the hole and that has nothing to do with how heavy it is.

dude, the engine puts out too much torque off the line so much that with out the torque control module it would completly shred the drive train, the torque control is self descriptive. it is used for abbusive stuff like burn outs and stuff. trust me i cant even get the tires to squeak much less squeal.

That may be, but doesn't it seem like they were a little conservative with it?

can't say i agree with the weight thing, since my last truck was 7200 lbs and would go side ways in all five gears on wet pavement with dual real wheels and it had 720 lbs ft of tq, to the rear wheels on a dyno. I have had a lot of cars back in the 60;s that were in the high 4000 lb range and they had far more tq. than the little 5.3 . My 69 corvette had a 427 ci engine and would run any of the new stuff down and it never broke any drive line parts and i would burn rubber with it all the time. For some reason Generous Mothers decided to cut the power off the line. I think the drive train could take much more than the 340 tq. and 320 hp. My cummins put out 400 lbs of tq at just about iddle.:D

i bet your corvette wa a manual, manuals are alot stronger than automatics, but a truly bullit proof automatic is the allison, so the chevy diesel models are really torqey. its just the 4l60-e need a little protection.

you are right about the manual being stronger but the clutch is the weak link when you get into the big blocks. Mine was a auto ( turbo 400 ) if i remember right. That was a long time ago, when gas was about 35 cents a gallon and tires were cheap. Also the wages were low so i guess its all the same. I just remembered one of the most fun 4x4 i ever owned. I bought a new land cruiser FJ-40 in 77 and took it home and yarded out the six and sold that and installed a new LT.1 350 ci and 350 hp. with a top loader M-22 rock crusher trans and saganaw power steering and 33 inch T/A on 8 inch wheels. Now that dog would run with the big boys. :Chevy:

How many miles are on the truck...the motor might not be broke in well yet?

Yep I had a 6 wheeler too, powerstroke, that would lite em up to 70 mph on the speedo. The truck had way too much torque. Once the warranty is up on your truck have it wester tuned and have the torque management turned down to 25%. My last truck was an 06 Trailblazer SS 2WD and I had tune tyme tune the pcm/tcm. It weighed in at 4800lbs +/-. Huge difference in just the tcm tune. Yes the trans are very protected with the torque management but that can take a little more than the way they're set.

If you really want it to punch hard off the line try putting in a race torque converter. I would go with about a 3k stall from PI (Precision Industries).

I had a PI converter in one of my former Vettes and it would ROAST the tires even on the track!

Here is a pic :D

I would get a custom tune to get rid of the TM first, then a stall like mentioned above.

With GM's Torque Management system, the engine won't apply all the available torque instantly. You'll have have the pcm reprogrammed to elimate a percentage or all of the TM. This is how GM helps avoid stress on the driveline.

In addition since GM uses throttle-by-wire, the butterfly doesn't slam open when you floor the accelerator but opens a little slower.
