Tire Size Question

I have a 2007 Tahoe LTZ, 4x4. It came from the dealer with 275 55 R 20 tires. It's time for new rubber and I was thinking about going up to 275 60 r 20's. Question is : will the 60's give me any issues with rubbing?

Also- any brand/style recommendations?

I am not a tire expert, but I believe those numbers on the tires are millimeter measurements... So if I understand it, you will be adding 5mm of rubber to the height of the tire? Unless your current tires already fill your wheel well, 5mm shouldn't make much of a difference... famous last words... ;-)

I think the way I understand It is the first number is the width of the tire in millimeters. The second number is percentage of height compared to that width. So for example 275 55 has a height of like 151 mm's. Then 275 60's would have a height of 165. (just rounding it off) so the difference isn't 5mm - it winds up being like 14mm once you figure the percentages. I think it's called "aspect ratio" or something like that.

Well that makes total sense! I knew the first number was width, but I never investigated the "ratio" of the second measurement and I guess I just assumed it was a measurement of height... Consider me educated! :waytogo:

With that said, 14mm converts to .551 inches. If it was me, I would only be concerned with the tires rubbing on hard turns. Maybe you could turn your current tires to the extreme right and left and measure the distance from the inside tire wall to the wheel wells and go from there?

Can anyone chime in on the subject?
