I have a 99 Tahoe 4WD, 5.7. Last week I replaced the spider fuel injector with the newer MPFI design and also replaced the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. Now it seems to have a timing problem, running rough with little power. It is throwing a P1345 code related to timing. Is setting the timing something I can do myself or should I take it to a mechanic with a scanner? Thanks!

You will have to have a scan tool with the capability to read cam offset? Did you pull the whole intake or just the fiberglass part?

There are several shade tree ways to set the timing, when I did my LIM gaskets I just kept turning mine untill the light stayed out..... been fine since.

I also tried the adjust by turning the distributor until the light went out this was after a complete head replacement for both sides so I did have the distributor out but felt as if the timing was off still so had it hooked to a scanner (luckily my brother in law works where he could bring one home) and found my timing was still quite a bit off. Timing is supposed to set at 0 + or -2 and now mine runs much better. I can't really figured why your timing is off based on what you done unless you turned the distributor while putting on the cap somehow but then I'm no professional lol. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck and hopefully you can post back and let us know what you come up with.

Yeah, I will set mine with a scan tool or a logic probe, just not gonna do it before I replace the engine (has a large crack in block), just wanted it running.......

FYI.......When replacing the distributor, you think you put it back in the same spot because it drops in, it drops in 1 tooth off. Pull out distributor and rotate 1 tooth counter clock wise. I just went through this, after pulling intake off, then replace the distributor. I had pulled mine 2 times, so I went back 2 teeth and no more check engine light and purrs like a kitten now. After the second time the truck would barely start and stay running. I looked at my marks I left and sure enough it was off. Hope this helps.
