looking for a replacement for my jeep, and i found this tahoe. it appears really clean from the pictures. but its got 124k miles, so I'm not sure how buying these used goes in terms of big repairs with high miles. what should i expect.

before i purchase i would definitely take it to a mechanic and have them do a pre purchase inspection, since they'd be able to give a better point of view on it than i could just by looking at it.

I would definitely take it to a mechanic, my main issues would be the tranny and the front end but then again you can tell a lot about a vehicles tranny by examining he fluid and driving it. Ball joints can be an expensive item to have done if you go through a shop. You would not think that ball joints would be a problem at 124k but you never know what the previous owner did or did not do

I have owned my 2004 Tahoe for 3 years I bought it off a GSA auction, sight unseen. I know that it was a well taken care of vehicle.

In the three years I have owned it, I have had no major issue's except that now it is totaled as my wife went into a ditch last week to avoid a deer and hit a tree.

The encoder motor on the transfer case seems to be an issue on these Tahoe's, though its not usually a huge expense, I replaced mine myself.

My 04 used what I thought was an excessive amount of oil, I purchased new valve cover because the PVC is built into the cover and that is how some have fixed the oil consumption problem, but I never did get it installed though.

I am going out this afternoon to look at another Tahoe the exact same year

I don't really consider 124k high mileage on a Tahoe, mine was at 202K and I would expect it to go to 300k with no issue's I am/was very consistent at changing oil regularly.

Not sure what year of a Tahoe you are looking at but anything 2007 and beyond and if it has a 5.3 has active fuel management, just be sure you change your oil regularly that can help to alleviate issue's with lifter's, etc. other's can chime it if they so desire.
