Here is what I have. I just bought a completely original in MINT condition 1997 Chevy Tahoe LS. It has the stock original 5.7 Vortech V8 with 4L60-E Tranny with only 25k miles on the truck. Everything about this truck is PERFECT and in showroom condition. I couldn't believe it when I saw it and had to jump on it before anyone else.

Recently, I have been doing some reading up on these trucks as I did not have much knowledge prior to purchasing it. I am leaning towards upgrading the 350 and tranny to a 383 with a 4L80 as this seems to be the concensus on most boards unless there is a better combo/recommendation keeping in mind the best bang for the buck.

Once the decision has been made to move forward with the swap then the stock engine and tranny will be available. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the engine or tranny that I have noticed. Runs great, shifts like butter, extremely clean and well kept. Feels like new.. and with only 25k miles on it that is exactly what I would expect and nothing less.

I am looking to add more power and more torque to the engine and drivetrain so that is the only reason for the swap. This truck with be used mainly for towing my 5500 lbs boat 20-30 times during the summer months on extended drives so I feel it necessary to do this upgrade before next season.

I am also looking at upgrading the braking system as they are completely inadequate for towing in my opinion. What options are available that will show real life functionality yet be cost effective.

Any input would be great.

I will entertain any offers. Engine and Tranny are located in the Twin Cities MN.
