Alright, let me start off by saying that I absolutely love my Yukon. I'm a big truck guy and always have been ever since I was a kid. This truck is actually my dream truck, I've always wanted a Tahoe/Yukon and finally got one. But lately, with the gas prices shooting through the roof I'm getting more and more convinced that I need to sell and get something more fuel effecient...especially before gas prices hit $5-6 per gallon and its too late. I've already done a few fuel saving mods (CAI, Flowmaster muffler, Custom tune from Justin), but its still not enough for me to be able to justify the cost of driving it. I'm at about 16.5 avg MPG according to the computer, but I'm still bleeding cash to fill my girl up with gas every week.

What am i missing? What else can I do to improve my MPG's?? Talk me off the ledge before I buy a Mazda Tribute or a Prius please....

I would look for other areas in my budget to cut as for one no one wants an SUV right now, so you will get pawned in selling it or trading it in. i am a big SUV guy myself and I would give up Direct TV and other things before I would give up my SUV. I just need High speed internet and my Tahoe and the rest is expendable.

I dont think i would consider my personal quality of life, my family, housing, and food expendable. I think my tahoe would be the first thing to go if I were in a financial bind.

Agreed...but I suppose that depends on everyone's individual situation more than anything else. I have a wife a two kids, so I don't have a whole lot that is "expendable" right now. If I were 21 and single again, then yeah, I could do the "one bedroom-crappy apartment with no cable or amenities" thing to afford a nice vehicle. Not so much now.

EZ, I feel your pain bro. But, I agree with the earlier points made - you'd get totally raped if you got ride of it, sale or trade. Most people are wising up to the SUV thing, and not many people want one. I think polecat had a great idea though - if you've got the room, find a $500 beater that gets 30+ mpg. For the cost of the mods you already have, theres the mpg increase you're looking for. ;)

not trying to be a dick, but r1w made LTGs staitment more than it really is.

what LTG means is dont splurge as much as you would, dont eat out as much, dont go and buy that new iphone. dont go and get that new super duper high def tv.

i agree with getting a cheap ass car and saveing the tahoe for the weekend, i went and bought a 2200 dollar 98 cadillac deville with a northstar, and i get 28 mpg hwy and 23 city. with a big mean 300 hp v-8. sure its a POC but it runs great, has nice room and comfort and gets me from point a to b quite nicely. but still drive my yukon every chance i get.

We went expensive as far as the Tahoe, but we have 2 paid for Jetta's(selling one) so I can get an ipod and pay off bills. The other jetta is the commuter car, and when it dies it get replaced by a Malibu. We have cut back a little but by no means are in dire straits. I value having a large safe SUV tank of a vehicle for safety than some little crap box car.

i love this GMT 900 so much i dont care if gas hits 10 dollars i will sell all my other cars before i give up driving this thing. ITS A MONSTOR, but drives like a luxury sedan, has power like a vette, yet is quiet as a mouse when needs to be, has plenty of space and comfort in all three rows, with air bags all around, and that big @ss engine to stop anything in front. i dont care what people say about driving suvs, even though i dont really need one since im single, i still love driving it. actully i take that back, if it were not for my suv, i could not take the boat or jetskis out. cant tow in a sports car.

and i agree i am not in poverty due to gas prices, i just need to watch my crazy spending. other than that things are no different other than i save 600 a month from my pay check for gas insted of 400. budget planning is key

A lot of good points have been made. At this point, you'll lose your butt on a sale or trade over what, an additional $15 a fill-up? To justify the cost of your new fuel effecient car you have to look at all aspects of ownership, insurance, the new payment, maintenance, etc. I could sell mine, lose my butt, buy a smaller, more fuel efficient car with a $3-400/mo payment, but I can afford the difference in filling up and owning a truck capable of towing my toys is something I'll always need, so getting rid of that would do me no good.

If all you do is go A-B, don't tow or haul anything, don't plan to tow/haul anything and you go with the trends anyway, maybe selling it is your best bet. Sorry for the novel.

thats another point, i lost my butt tradeing my 06. blue book was 22k black book was 18. not sure what year or options you have , but my 06 had EVERY ( i do mean every, what ever option on the web in 06 i clicked it even block heater and im in va beach) with 44k miles on it. mint condition, i dont smoke, i never EVER, let anybody eat in it, and i had a specail pair of shoes that never touched the ground that i wore while i was in there, so the intrior was spotless.

my first offer was 12k FOR A 2006 MINT CONDITION!!!!! we finally shook hands at 15k. but is still low, if i lost on a mint 06, your gunna loose even more. but its toatily worth it for the new one, love it so much.

ya, I was posting the ad on craigslist about an hour ago, and while listing all the options on the truck I realized I can't sell it. I'm going to get a nice used bike, prob a CBR or R6 to ride to work a few days a week. That will help alot. After looking at fuel effecient vehicles today, I realize there's no way I could have some little rollerskate as my daily driver. I'll take a bike and a Yukon over a Mariner w/ bluetooth any day.

Thanks for the replies

Glad to see you hang in there.

+1! Always great to have guys stick with us. :cool2:

And I hear ya on the bike, too...I'd be crusin to work on a Ninja EX500R right now if my wife didn't threaten to divorce me if I bought it...

I guess having two kids makes the female of species get waaay nervous about two wheels and handlebars as opposed to four doors and a steering wheel.

now thats just retarded. are you serious?

yes, when i went offroading i didnt want mud on the rugs, so i had work boots when i got out and nice tennis shoes for driving the truck. make more sense. also some job sites had no paved streets yet and were all mud, so you got dirty.

haha, ya my girlfriend and your wife must be from the same school of thought man. My chick tells me that I'll kill myself on a bike, but its just cause she's the type to worry. She'll change her tune when she's riding on the back at 90mph tho :D

I feel dumb even considering selling my truck, let me tell ya something....after looking at all those little golf carts yesterday I remembered why I bought the Yukon to begin with. Nothing compares to the comfort and utility offered to you by a full size SUV.

Thanks again for the replies, I'm back to normal now

I would just cut back on other expenses. I get pissed when it costs over $100 to fill my beast, but when I drive by a totaled Honda, I feel so much better about my choice of vehicle.

my xl is VERY fuel efficent IMO. had a full tank, bought it with 240 miles, has 380 and im at 3/4's of a tank, i notice it runs in v-4 mode alot, so i guess that really helps. cool thing is it knows when you stopped and switches back to v-8 mode to accerate.
