Hey all. New here This forum is awesome tons of info.

Got a question? I looked at a 04 Tahoe LT yesterday. Liked the truck a lot. Had a few things I didn't like. For one I have a question? Are all LT's full time 4 wheel drive? This one only had three buttons for 4X4. One shut the traction control off. One set it in to regular 4x4 and one 4 low. This is the only 04 I have been in and the owner said only the Z71's have a 2 wheel option? Is this true?

Does anyone have one of these that's full time 4 wheel? I am old school love rear wheel drive. Like going sideways every once and a while. Like playing in the snow in 2 wheel. I am worried I will not like the 4 wheel all the time. Can I make it just 2 wheel when I want. Does it shut off the 4 wheel when you turn the traction control off?? Any info on this will be great.

One more question. So I looked at this truck it’s a LT so has most of the goodies. No nav, sun roof, or rear DVD. Has third seat, and all the other standard LT stuff. It had 41K on it. It was a smokers truck. So the driver’s seat and area needs to be cleaned BAD!! Seat is really worn and dis-colored. Over all needs a detailing bad. Not really that clean at all. Paint is good. Original brakes & tires. Tires are ok but have the 42K on them. So there is no price on it because the owner passed away and the wife just wants to get rid of it. If I can live with the full time 4x4 I think I will make an offer. What do you all think a good offer would be? It’s been on the market 6 months.

One more question sorry for the long post. How are the full time 4x4 on gas? I have a 98 Tahoe now that gets between 10 and 15. 15 high way.

THANKS FOR READING MY LONG POST. Not sure if this is the right forum either.

Thanks in Adavance

This is what I think...

The middle button is All Wheel Drive, not 4WD.

I have the exact same getup in my 2004, and the mileage is 13-15 city, and 18-20 HWY.

I really don't know what to tell you about the price. Start as low as possible and work you way up in $500 increments.

Actually, the truck you're looking at is AWD with the 4LO option. That's what the three button LT's are. Most have the 4 button with Auto 4x4, 2 HI, 4HI, and 4 LO options.

As for gas mileage, depending on the gear ratio, you should get anywhere between 12-16 city and 17-21 highway. Personally with 3.42 gears, I get 13 city and 20 highway with cruise set on 70.

Right now, the floor has fallen out of the SUV market... you can get 'em for cheap... I would book it at Wholesale and start there, even lower if you're brave enough. I got my '03 LS w/ options 64k miles for $13,500. It booked for $19k.

Thanks all for the info. So when you hit the top button and turn the traction control off, what mode is that. AWD with no Traction control?

Sounds like the Gas mileage would be a lot better than mine. The only thing holding me back is the AWD if it was a 2w, Auto, 4h, 4L, I would of all ready made them an offer. I just think after i get it I will not like the AWD. That and the truck not being cleaned at all bothers me. Its going to take a full day or two of detailing to get it to my standards.

Are the transfer cases different or just the computer that runs the traction control and AWD??

If I offer I am going to start at 9K. How does that sound?

Thanks Again.

$9K would be pretty good. I would say $9-$12K is the range.

Yea, the gas mileage on the new one should be a good bit better than the first body style regardless of gearing.

When you hit the Stabilitrak button, it should keep AWD on, just disable the stability system.

Thats a good question, I would think the whole transfer case would be different since it's AWD with the 4LO option as opposed to a Auto, 4HI, 4 LO. I'm far more familiar with the 4x4 systems than the AWD.

If you have any doubt, hold off, theres nothing worse than looking back and thinking "I wish I had looked around a little more..." I know that feeling!

The only thing I have ever had in 4X4 was a 2001 Dodge Durango R/T. It was AWD all the time and had 4hi and 4lo.

Having a 4X4 was good, I'm not gonna lie. This thing rocked, but I couldn't deal with the thirsty appetite that thing had. So I got rid of it.

Since then I have gotten and was searching for a 2wd cause like you, I like to get crazy every once in a while, although traction control and tourque management get in the way. Also I wanted something I can drop. Not to knock anyone who has done this, it's just my own feelings, but I can't see dropping a 4X4.

start with 9k for sure, if she really wants to get rid of it, go with 9k... you should go to KBB.com and list everything out and offer her lower than the lowest price it gives you and work your way up from there, i suppose. but with that low milage, even being a smokers car, you will be getting a good deal at 12k IMO (assuming all the mechanicals are still fine)

I'm a new guy as well. I just picked up a fully loaded 02 LT with 80k for $10k, so if its been on the market for awhile she may take 9k. As far as AWD goes, my Explorer had it. I did miss having the 2WD option, but not all that much, not worth missing out on a killer deal because you can still have fun in the snow with AWD. The big thing is though once you get it to break loose, you can't control it, so play in parking lots only! I am pretty excited though to have 2WD back, I like the fact that Chevy gives you all four options.

So even thought I am not looking all that hard I found another one.

Wouldn't mind some opinion?

Its a 03 Z71. Loaded 73500 miles. Sun roof, leather, digital climate, basically just NO nav, rear dvd, sat radio, or third seat. Looks like it has never towed anything. Has a borla Exhaust. Truck is really clean, has new brakes and tires are about half.

He is asking 11,900.

He said some one offered him 10 and he said no.

I was going to start at 10500 and see what he says.

Also just a side question what is my 98 Tahoe LS worth? w/108k, new motor at 97K. pretty clean average dings and few scratches. everything works. no problems. here is a pic. I know what KBB and Nada say but i was just wondering what you all thought?
