Summer and a new Tahoe can't come soon enough. Plans are to get one over the summer when the weather is nice. Looking at all of your guys pictures is making each day drag on like you wouldn't believe!

As long as everything $$$ wise works out I should be able to do it. At 19 yrs old its going to be tough but I've done some figuring and It's definitely possible.

Send me some prayers fellas,
Dan

Just a bit of advice on car shopping.....get everything you want for the price you want. I know that sounds silly to say that but Im dead serious. You go into that dealer ARMED with every ounce of information you can get your hands on. DONT act like you are dying for the car, and work it. People arent pounding down the doors for SUVS that get dismal gas mileage, so those dealerships want to sell every bit as badly as you want to buy. If you don't like the deal that one dealer will give you, march out, and head to another one. I say that because I had salesmen chasing me out the door a few times yelling "WAAAAAIIT!!" and giving me another quote. I would usually say something like "Is that exactly what I wanted? NO, go try again" And after a while I found the perfect deal.....for $10,000 under MSRP.

Holy crap dude! 19??!? I cant help but comment that there must be a better way for you to spend your money at age 19 then to dump it into a truck and loose half of it in only 4 or 5 years. Either that or you are digging your self a pretty large hole if you are financing it... Either way, you might want to seriously consider getting your self a little more "modest" vehicle until you have a little more of a financial foundation. Especially if you "should be able to [afford] it. I translate that into being just barely able to afford it, which is not a good way to start your adult-hood.

40 grand today will be worth 20 in a few years if you dump it on a truck. 40 grand today will be worth 50,60, or 80 in the same time it takes that truck to halve its value, if you invest it well. That could be a LARGE down payment on a house, OR a good sized down payment on a house AND a new tahoe. I'm sure your parents have already told you this Just food for thought...

I do feel your pain - I am waiting to order a 2009, and its tough.

Edit: I dont mean to rain on your parade, maybe I came off as being too negative. Also - I assumed you meant you were gona buy a new tahoe, but I looked back in your previous threads and saw you are looking slightly used, which is probably a very good decision. Where in VT are you located?

im 20 (well for the next week) but even so i bought my yukon when i was 19. in october of 06 paid cash, darn proud of it. im also ordering an 09 but plan on KEEPING the 06, they are great trucks, why stop him. im single and plan own owning two full size suv's.

so i say good luck and GO FOR IT.

i also own my house outright. the truck is a very good investment if you plan on owning it for a while, and these trucks DO last. so when he is 25 and has a family, it could still be a very good family truckster.

he could invest it, and what drive a piece of crap that gets him no return in a trade in, and leave him financeing when he is 30 when it matters more as he may have a family. just IMO of course.

Well heres a little background.

Im a community college student, living at home (and plan on staying here till im out of school) I have about a $5k trade in on top of a CD that I have set up at the bank. I do plan on financing it.

Im looking for the cheapest model (LS) and will not spend more than $25K. I have seen them for less. I've also seen people that want to get out from under their debt selling Tahoes for whatever is left on their payments (I saw one for $20k)

I still have some thinking to do, Im obviously not going to stick my head in where I can't get it out, but If I can, then I will.

I wonder if the gas prices keep going up, if I will be able to get one off the lot instead of second hand. Ive heard of big mark downs going on at dealers just to get them off the lot!

Rebates, thats it. I was actually $1500 upside down in my trade....but I know i would have ended forking that $1500 over anyway with the problems it was having (It was wrecked about 12 too many times). And no lapdance. Just a GREAT rebate, and me.....who was sitting there in the dealer at closing time....still waiting for my car....at the price I wanted it.

I say go for it! If you really think you can make it work, and once you have a job, after school, you shouldn't have any trouble getting a loan. The deals will be good in the summer also. With the high gas prices, and 2009 models looming, it should be great for buyers.

Just be aware. The gas will be a revelation. My gas billl DWARFS my car payment, but then again, I drive quite a bit. And Bucwild, yes, I basically took invoice price and slapped rebates onto it. I was dealing with a fleet salesperson and they just seem to be SO much easier to put up with then a standard car salesperson. I also just happened to be in the right place at the right time. They had just shipped in a bunch of 08s, and then a truck comes hauling in with a bunch of 07s in tow. The dealer just wanted to get rid of the 07s, period.

Well if you are looking at the LS 2wd, that means you will get the 4.8 liter V8, which does it's job quite well. Plan on averaging around 14-15 on a tank.

Aah, ok, then you will get the 5.3 liter engine. I had one of the old 5.3s but I cant speak for the new ones with the AFM on them
