Tailgate latch on 99 Hoe

All of a sudden my tailgate will not open. What do I have to do to get inside this thing? Any tricks? I see the lock moving when I hit my remote. Tried the key but if feels like it is not unlaching the gate.

Mine gets stuck.. from time to time, just gotta pop it and give it a good yank.. - might want to grease the latch up after it opens

Fixed the tailgate

Just wanted to let you all know. I removed the inner panel from the tailgate and the latch assy cover. I discovered the clip which holds the latch rod from the handle to the release rods had fallen off. I figured it was broke but found the white little plastic connector inside the tailgate. Reassembled it and I was in business. Total cost of repair 0 dollars.
