Here's my take, being an owner of both the Expedition and Tahoe.
I'm a GM fan, having owned about 15 out of my 17 or so previously owned vehicles being GM (my non-GMs were Ford; a turbochrged SVO 'stang and my Expedition). I bought a brand new Eddie Baurer Expedition a few years back with the 5.4L Triton, only because the wifey insisted she liked it better than the Tahoe. Nice, but I still like my Tahoe better. Both were loaded and comparable as far as options. I liked the adjustable power pedals in the Expy and the fact that the pedals, seats , and mirrors automatically adjusted to either my wife's settings or mine when we used our own key fob. The Tahoe has more power overall. And I like the dash layout and interior overall better in the 'hoe over the Expedition. Working on the 5.3L Tahoe motor ( or even the older 5.7 at that) is a lot easier than the Ford's 5.4 due to more room in the engine bay. Bought the Exped with 3 miles, put 96K on it in two years. I regularly maintained the Ford, but started having problems at around 80K miles, then finally got rid of it. My Tahoe is holding up MUCH better than my Expedition, and I currently have about 94K miles on the 'hoe.
And as for racing an Expedition and Tahoe;
Sometimes I use my SUV to trailer my Camaro to the track. So while we had the truck there, my wife took the Expedition for a run just for kicks once. .501 light, ran down the 1/4 mile in 17.0s @ 77 mph bone stock. A few years later when I got the Tahoe, bone stock it ran 16.4 @ 81 mph. Tahoe has more hp and tq than the Ford. The Exped had an open 3.31 rear compared to my Tahoe's 3.73 posi.
Ford 5.4L- 260hp 330 ft/lbs tq
Chevy 5.3L- 295hp 335 ft/lbs tq
Also, the Tahoe has a little more towing capacity.
Both has it's pros and cons, but overall, I'd buy a Tahoe over an Expedition any day.
