i just bought my first Tahoe day before yesterday. I bought a 96 2 dr. Sport 4wd. Odometer shows 157k but new engine only has 20k. I've wanted one for quite some time. I traded in my 97 Ext. cab Ram for it. It has brand new BF Goodrich A/T's on it and runs great.

I had a few questions about the Tahoes in general.

1.) My oil pressure seems to stay about 70-75 lbs. most of the time. It almost pegs the gauge. Is this any cause for concern?

2.) How hard is it to swap the stock stereo for my in dash dvd? I popped the trim loose the other night but couldn't seem to get my headlight switch out. I'm afraid I might break something. Are there any writeups on removing the panels?

I like the forum. Hopefully I'll be around for a good while. This is my first fullsize Chevy and so far I'm pleased.

It either sounds like the sending unit on the oil pressure gage is failing or you might have blockage in your oil system. I would put a manaual pressure gage on it and get an accurate reading. About the stereo, its a pretty easy swap, is the radio you have a single DIN radio? Do you have the adapter to the GM opening? If so all you need is the two harness's, one for your radio and one for your truck and you wire them together. Its real easy, go to Crutchfield.com and they might have a writeup for the Tahoe.

First off, welcome to the site. Hopefully you'll like the Tahoe better than your Dodge:thumbsup:
Your pressure sounds a little on the high side, but not too high that I would be too concerned. It's possible it could be from a new hp oil pump installed during the rebuild or faulty gauge.
Installing a new stereo isn't bad at all. The headlight switch will come out when you remove the trim bezel. Use a pick tool or small flat-head screwdriver to press the tab on the connector behind the light switch and release it from the switch. When you install your new stereo, place a few strips of electrical tape over the top of the exposed hvac circuit board and around the metal portion of the antenna adapter to help prevent any damage to the board. For some reason GM thought it was a good idea to leave the circuit board exposed in this body style truck. I've repaired dozens of these because inexperienced installers and DIY'ers installing decks and shorted a trace, mostly caused by the metal on the antenna adapter touching the circuit board causing a short.

Hopefully it will be easy. I work at an International diesel shop and our lead tech is a friend of mine. He is going to hook up his Modis Monday and check everything.

The truck runs beautifully, so hopefully there is no problem with the oil pressure. Once the truck is warmed up for about 20 minutes the oil pressure drops to 40 at idle and runs up to 65-70 when driving. So I wouldn't think there would be a blockage. I've just never seen a gauge sweep that far. It threw a CE light today anyways, so once the Modis is connected I'll be able to monitor all the parameters.

Is there anything the Tahoes are prone to have happen? I'm loving it so far. I've got to put a bulb in the passenger side corner blinker. It's out. I noticed that lense didn't seem to have screws to get it out. Does it have to come out from the rear or does the entire grille have to be removed?

Thanks for the help so far!
