Tahoe making a knocking noise only when turning... I just noticed it a few weeks ago....only when I'm turning. It isn't all the time, but I can hear a knocking noise when I turn or when I'm backing up and making a turn. Also when im driving in a gas station turn into or out of parking space tires squel like there draging weird any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Steering Damper?

I'm guessing its your Steering Damper.

from what i understand, this is typical for chevys (possibly all gm trucks?). i've heard that this is due to poorly engineered parts and there isn't a manufacturer approved solution aside from periodic maintenance, i.e. tightening loose nuts/bolts/connections, repacking connections/joints with grease, etc. within the entire steering assembly - from wheel to [steering] wheel.

i have the same issue with my '01 'hoe, and although i have yet to examine my steering thoroughly, i'm confident the problem will be glaringly obvious, and i plan on doing a number on the entire system while im there.

It is probably the upper intermediate steering shaft. Buy the new one. Mine makes the same noise, and I have ordered the new type.
