I would like to purchase a tuner for my 2007 Yukon(5.3 flex). Can anyone comment on the best tuner for the money and is there really any mileage increase to be realized by installing one.

I have heard good things about the Edge, bad things about the Superchips and not a whole lot on the Diablosport. I just purchased the Diablo and should be getting it this week if the ice subdues. I am looking forward to testing it out. I purchased this tuner because it gives me the advantage to turning the torque management down to a reasonable level and it offers a lot of different options when tuning your fuel curves yourself. It can log data onto the handheld and you can review it on your computer and adjust to get the perfect tune. Not to say that I think I could handle this right away, but their website has a great forum and a lot of inside help on tuning your truck the way you want it tuned. Once I get the unit I plan on doing a full write up of my thoughts and I how I like the stock tunes that come with it.

Edge on Denali (6.2 + 6-speed)

Dont' get me wrong; I love my Edge Evolution, and it's hard for me to accept the following, BUT:

I talked with Edge yesterday, and they indicated to me that they're currently NOT working on nor should we expect to see any 6-speed transmission control module (TCM) tuning capability until at least next summer. So needless to say, I'm not optimistic about that even ... they've told me before they were working on it, and it was delayed.

I'm going to see what the Diablosport people have to say ("Trinity" looks really cool), and see what some Diablosport users have to say re: their tuners. I'm only looking for additional fuel economy, and I don't wanna do any burnouts or anything dumb like that... I want to kill the WOT delay, speed limiter (don't like being "limited"), and have shift point control.

The Edge will still pay for itself within 8-9 months, due to the fuel cost savings, so it's not a loss or anything, and the truck runs like a MONSTER!

BUT, regarding Edge development on the 6.2L + 6-speed, I thought I'd share the disappointment! :(

They claim full TCM control capability on 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L, so if you've got one of those, I imagine you'll be fine...

I wouldn't rule out the Edge -- it's a great tuner, and the geek factor with the monitor gauge capability and dash pod are really cool. BUT, if you also want WOT delay control, speed limiter removal, and shift point control, then the Edge on any GMT900 with 6.2L and 6-speed is NOT the answer yet. The Edge Evolution is really nice, and will still be part of my ride for the foreseeable future, but I think there may be a Predator or Trinity with my name on it soon.

Oh, and you know I'm gonna ask for pics of that Sierra Denali again! (In the proper forum of course, not to jack this thread...)

All are good tuners and my buddy has had awesome luck with the superchips flashpaq on his 07 L92 escalade. The best power gain I have seen on these trucks with a handheld tuner is from the edge evolution. The tune is cleaner but the edge doesn't offer all the provisions the superchips or predator do. I would stick to a custom tune from westers, blackbear, or nelson. I usually recommend custom tunes to my customers that are fairly competent with electronics, even if it means I lose a superchips or edge sale.

i have the edge in mine and its a great plug in tuner. but honestly to get the most power is to get a custom pcm tune. i plan on doing this once i get my mind set on leaving my 35s or going to 37s. and im going to try out a blackbear tune.

I put the Diablo in mine and run the 87 octane tune. Now I didn't notice any butt dyno performace, but I did notice an increase in being able to stay in V4 mode and getting better mileage on the same stretch of road. When it is flat (which doesn't happen often in North Eastern Oklahoma) and not windy (once again, doesn't happen often) I get 20 to 21 instant MPG on the highway going 75 where as before I got 16 to 17. That is a very noticable gain. I haven't taken any long trips with it yet and I am very interested to see what it would get in the long run. My last trip without the tuner I averaged 15.0. Right now I am only averaging about 13.2, but my wife always leaves the car running when its parked and warms it up with the remote start all the time. She doesn't get on the highway much either so that doesn't help. So far I am pleased with the Diablo. It doesn't have as much tuning ability as I thought it might. I can't adjust torque management but I can run logs on it which is pretty cool. I was actually looking at the torque managment log the other day and it showed from every full throttle takeoff their that torque management was 0. It only came on up to 20 when I was on the highway and got on it, and not everytime. Supposedly the 87 and diablo tune turns down TM and removes any throttle delay. I tried out the 93 octane tune and also didn't feel any seat of the pants increase. It says on their website that all vehicles are different and will react differently to their tuners and to get the most out of the tune, create a customer tune based on the parameters you get while data logging. The forum there goes into detail on how to check your timing and fuel and set them to your vehicle. I don't really want to get into this yet. I said yet, because I am sure someday I will. They are planning on updating the unit to include TCM support and TM adjustments in the future but diablo can't say when it is going to happen, just that it will happen sometime in the future. I bought the tuner at this point for fuel savings and it has met my expectations. I also bought it so if I wanted to at some point do my own adjustments, I would be able to. Am I happy I bought the diablo? Yes. Would I like to try out an edge? Of course. Anyone out there want to trade for a month? I would love to take each one to a dyno to see what the out of the box tunes produce over stock.

For what it is worth, I saw a 1 mpg increase after installing my Superchips Flashpaq on my previous '07 Tahoe w/ the 5.3 on the performance setting. This was with practicly 0 highway driving and both mpg numbers were taken over a span of 2500 miles. I was happy with the power increase as well. After getting rid of the Hoe I installed it on our '07 Yukon XL the day we picked it up from the dealer so I had no baseline on the mpg, but I do know when I uninstalled it for a trip to the dealer you could definitely notice that there was a decrease in power. Now it's on our Denali and it gives me an extra 20 RWHP over stock. Personally, I think this is the best mpg & performance "bang for the buck" mod you can do.
