Hi All,

The oil gauge on the instrument cluster has broken. It just lies flat and does not move. Can anyone suggest a reputable repair shop that can fix that gauge? Or does anyone know if replacing the cluster will require additional coding so that all items are compatible? Or can it just be swapped?

Thanks,

Gideon V.

I moved this to a more appropriate section. If you don't have an 00-06 let me know and I'll move it to the right year range.

Are you positive your oil sending unit has not gone out?

My wife's 06 tahoe had the oil gauge quit working. I removed the cluster from my 06 Silverado(I knew it's oil gauge worked) and put mine in her Tahoe. Once again the oil gauge did not work. I replaced the oil sending unit and it fixed her problem.

According to what I am reading it is the same from 1999-2006. So yours should be no different than what I had to do. If you are not familiar with the instrument cluster removal, the link below will show you step by step how it is done. I did not use a tool to pop the trim piece out, I simply grabbed it with my fingers and gave a firm pull, the trim released without any issues. I have done this several times showing others how to do it. The instrument swap between our vehicles was just plug and play.

the oil sending unit was replaced last year. I reached to the back of the engine and all the connections seem to be in place. The oil gauge itself doesn't even move. typically it would rest on the left side once the engine is shut off. Right now its just lying flat on the right side far outside the proper range.

do you know anyone with an locally that would allow you to swap out your cluster just to check it. I have friends that would do it for me but I know not everyone does.

If you swap them and their oil gauge reads properly then you know for sure it's the gauge.

Where are you located? If your in the Houston area we could meet up and swap them. I have read where the stepper motors go out within the cluster, if that is the issue then you either replace the bundle or have it rebuilt. I see services and/or kits on ebay but it requires you to solder and desolder.

The first step is to determine for sure that the problem is within your bundle. I also see a used cluster on ebay right now for 2000-2002 Tahoe for $109.xx buy it now and that includes shipping.

Thanks for the offer and advice. Unfortunately I'm all the way in ny. I was able to have my local mechanic determine that its the cluster. And this weekend we just noticed that the speedometer is off. So a full rebuild seems to be in order. Thanks again. If you know any repair shops that specialize in instrument clusters let me know.

Thanks,
