Speedometer problems

I have an '05 Tahoe LT, and sometimes the speedometer will say I'm traveling 110 when I'm actually doing 45! I can turn ignition off and on several times to fix, but then a couple of trips later it is back wrong again! The batt meter is also pegged. Do I need a new gage cluster or is it something else? Please help my wife frequently drives this car, and has no idea how fast she is going.

I would say yes, your cluster is in need of repair or replacement. These are usually signs of the stepper motors going bad in the cluster itself.
