Spare Tire Problem...Please Help!!!

My wife got a flat in our 05 tahoe and I was stuck at work for another 4 hours. I had my friend put the spare on for her. Well, when He took the spare out from under the truck he didnt put the flat on the cable. He just cranked the cable up as far as it would go and he stuck the tire in the hatch. Now when I crank the cable down it wont unhook and come out of the holder. Has anyone had this happen to them? How can I get the cable to unhook and come down? Any help is appreciated!!! Thanks

try prying it uot with a pry bar while someone cranks it down. it is jambed into the housing.
