Have a 2002 Yukon 4wd w/62,000 miles. I want to replace the shocks. What do you recommend? Are the Billstein’s worth the extra money? I do occasional towing. (Once a year or so) with a light trailer. I have the regular suspension.
Also, where is the best place to buy them.
Thank you for your help.

Welcome to the neighborhood!

Bilsteins are good, but Rancho's are just as good in my opinion and right now they are having a mail in rebate promotion on their shocks. Check out the link below, read about what they are doing and then contact me here for help getting what you need, I will make sure you are taken care of.

I have Church tonight so I won't be back on until a little later if I don't respond right away.

Sorry. I really don't want Ranch shocks.

I kind of resent your responses with the massive ads all over the forum.

I apologize if they offend you. I attempt to help folks as much as I can, but this is my job and what I use to feed my family. If I do not advertise I don't sell anything, if I do not sell anything I don't eat.

I dont find the ads intrusive at all. And to be honest, clkelley just got a fellow member a great deal on some shocks for his vehicle, which is what he was after. We all like some good deals dont we? Some forums are much worse with their ads. :waytogo:

I'm new to the say so I will first start off with a HELLOOOOOO.... Anyway, this has been a nagging question for me. Can the Premium ride shocks on my 2000 Suburban be replaced with regular shocks and the electronics overridden???? I have no doubt in my mind that it can be done. I just refuse to spend $1700 to replace the shocks. Please help....

Yes, they can. What model Tahoe do you have? Either way, it IS possible to replace the Autoride system with regular shocks. There are actually a lot of folks that do this just because they don't like the ride of the autoride system, and others do like you want to, replace and get new stuff under there without having to spend so much money to do so.

Let me know the exact details of your ride and I can help you find what you need.

It sits lower because the ZW7 option (Nivomat self leveling) shocks that you took out have springs and 1800 PSI of pressure in them. They are matched with weaker coil springs to even things out.

When you remove those you have to replace the springs, too. Bilstein has a set for this or you can use Z-71 or Z-55 coils. Z-71's are the stronger off-road spring. Z-55 are softer and the Bilsteins may be in between somewhere.

Don't use weak coils for lowering as you will bottom out and blow shocks. Use shorter full strength springs for that.
