New Member... 2001 Tahoe, 128k miles. I have been having problems with continuous serpentine belt squeal. Have replaced belt several times due to thinking it was the slight anti-freeze leak, which has been cured with stop-leak. New belt will cure the problem for a few miles, then it will start squealing again. Idle pully and tensioner are in good shape when spun freely by hand with no roughness of bearing wear. Alternator spins like a new one. Problem seems to be getting gradually worse in the pass couple years. I notice yesterday as replacing another belt, that the edges of the belt show wear to where you can see threads in the belt. (misalignment?) Air conditioner belt has been ruled out. I feel that using belt dressing, soap, WD-40,or whatever quick fixes there are, that this is not the long term fix.
Any help will be appreciated... Thanks

Ok... here's the scoop- All my neighborhood shade tree mechanics looked and listened to my problem and came up with trying a different brand of belt. A Bando belt. As compared to a Dayco, it is in fact made different. Put it on, and presto!, no more squealling! Dayco belt only had 2700 miles on it. I'll be back to let you know how it goes in a few hundred miles...:waytogo:
