2008 Tahoe LTZ - Gold Mist: Please don't jump my case about the safety aspect of this but does anyone know of any way to eliminate the seat reminder "dings" that ring out twice for a series of 5-dings if one of the 2 front passengers isn't wearing a belt? I used to have some Ford Expeds (again, that's USED TO) and they had a routine where you could push the belt in and out of the clasp so many times in 30 seconds and it would disable the audible reminder. I'm not worried about the light on the dash but I would like to disable the reminder tones in my tahoe. Anyone?

I hear you, I did that on my last Mustang too. But I don't think these things have anything like that, and I was thinking about bypassing it with a switch, maybe one that resets each time the ignition cycles so I have to recognize the warning once each time I start it.

Yes, the old plug the seat belt in 500 times, flash your headlights 600 times, and run around the truck in circles 20 times seat belt trick.:smilielol:

That is in the Ford owners manual, I did not find anything in GM manual, but I would also like to disable it.

Anyone?

Chime is done though the BCM and is output through the speakers.

Yeah it ain't no little piezo buzzer anymore, that option is out. Like I said, just get into the wires at the buckle and put a switch somewhere. But wear the belt when it's appropriate for your safety too.

Thats true, you can probably just make a loop between the signal wires to compete the circuit. That way the system thinks the seatbelt is always buckled.

But you never know, anythings possible now having the seat sensors that detect the body weight.

There is a wire that comes out of the bottom near where the seat belt attaches to the floor under the seat, there is a connector there... simply disconnect it. and no more light............

Dunno if this works in the new Tahoes, but my brother has a new hhr ss and he has the same problem, I cut a piece of cardboard to fit just inside the seatbelt tricking it into thinking that the seatbelt is actually in. Or you can do what my friend did, he got a seatbelt from a junkyard, that wasn't attached to anything and just puts it in, one of these should work..

Does the supplemental restraint system evaluate seatbelt use to determine if the degree of accident impact warrants airbag deployment? I don't know about the Tahoe, but I believe it is the case in other vehicles. That might make disconnecting wires a bad idea.

Yeah I don't think you want to disconnect anything, I think you would want to bridge it so it thinks its buckled. I want to do this with a switch of some sort.

Even that is not the best thing. Airbags can go off in diffrent stages. They are designed to work with seatbelts, so making if think it is on is not the best thing for your saftey.

I know you don't want an airbag going off without a seatbelt in any kind of substantial accident, hell you'd want to wear the belt through pretty much any accident I guess. I just want the option for like when I crawl through the neighborhood at 15 or 20 to get to the market a few blocks away, and I'm sure some of these guys might be on a couple acres and have a long driveway to the mailbox, stuff like that. So when the chime comes on the first time just flick the switch. I could never endorse regular driving without a belt, even if I skipped it once in a while, but I do normally wear it and it's not because the chime is bugging me to do it. Hell, besides safety I feel like that's the one thing cops are looking at when they see me (at least until I tint the windows, then it will be that instead- so when I roll down the front windows just in time I better have a belt on my shoulder!). I won't argue with any point concerning safety though.
