How do I reset my computer on my 2004 Yukon 5.3? I think it ran out of gas but im not sure because the the engine died on me going down the road and it was almost out of gas but now it acts like the battery is dead but I'm not so sure, it sounds like when it was almost out of gas the computer shut off. Any suggestions??

Put gas in it and maybe you can disconnect battery for 20 mins and let it wind down. Maybe you can get lucky. I dont think running out of gas will affect computer, otherwise dealers would be going nuts.

Remove positive batt cable and touch it to the neg post for 30 sec. Might want to get battery tested.

REALLY?!? Are you kidding, or serious -- I've never heard of doing that. Makes some sense tho -- essentially putting the whole electrical system a some sort of equilibrium? Interesting.

Actually saw this on another forum from a GM guy. It justs bleeds off all residual voltages. Kind of like a hard boot on a PC.

Good tip -- I'll file that under "Huh! I Didn't Know That!" ... right next to "You Learn Something New Every Day"... Thanks.

Thanks for the message, I tried that but it didn't work. It acts like its not getting fire. I checked the fuel rail for fuel and there was fuel so it has to be fire related now.

Does it crank? If not, pull the battery and take it somewhere where they test it for free... If the batt. tests okay, perhaps the alternator has a problem. Did you check the serpentine belt to make sure it's 1) still there 2) nice and tight? Hope that helps...

Again, does the starter crank?

Do you live near the ocean? Use a wire brush or some steel wool and thoroughly clean the battery connector terminals (on the leads, obviously not your new battery, heh). You could have corroded connectors.

Also, are you 100% sure that new battery is FULLY charged? (Sounds dumb, buy you could try a jump start...)

You need to check fuel pressure in the rail with the key in Run position.

use a scanner an check for codes. could possibly be the fuel pump, and if not that then might even be something as far a crank sensor, but you wont know until you have a starting point. make sure the truck has the basics... Air, Fuel, Spark, and Compression. sound kind of stupid but might even want to check the air filter. might have gotten mud or clogged somehow.
