Hello all. I am new here and am in need of help. I am doing some work for a friends 03 Tahoe. It was having speedo issues, power seat issues and needed a oil change.
I took the dash apart and messed with the gauge a little and put it back together. Started to work a little better. Took it out again and took apart the stepper motor. While putting back in drained oil and the replaced with new filter. Went to start it and it seems to start for a second then stalls out. Then the little light in the dash with a car with a lock through it comes on for about 5 seconds then goes off. If I turn it all the way off and try it again the same thing happens. Does anyone know if the dash is missing overnight It will cause it to through a security code.

I need help. I need to get this dash fixed and back to the owner. Loacted in Royal Oak Michigan if anyone lives nearby and is willing to help. Thanks Josh

Try resetting the Passlock system in the bcm and see if it helps.
Put the key in the ign and turn it all the way forward to the IGNITION position without starting the truck. Now leave to key in this position for at least 12 mins. After 12 mins or so, turn the key back to the OFF/LOCK position then forward again to start the truck.
If it is a sec problem, this should take care of it. Good luck.

Thats got to be one for the books ! ......wouldnt it also been easier to just replace the whole cluster ?

If the passlock system is preventing the truck from being started, you have to reset it using the reset procedure. The bcm will sometimes lose the passlock programming and will need to be reset. Replacing the entire cluster won't help.

Thank you. Tried the 12 min reset and no luck. So I have to get a tec II from someone and have it reflashed. I hope it is not something else. That would be lame if this truck I'm working on stops running after a oil change and dash removal. Any other info on this situation would be greatly appreciated.
