I really don't have the money for an exhaust system. not even cat-back. But After riding around in my buddies 97 sierra with duals Im a bit jealous.
After looking at it Ive come to be even more put off on doing the exhaust. Im very glad my tahoe already has dual exhaust, thats great, but it leads to one muffler. Thats retarded. Not to mention the muffler is the size of a small child.

So I was wondering about just taking the muffler off? Im really not concerned with it being to loud. Im just wondering about the exhaust letting out under the car and what to do with an o2 sensor. The gasket is pretty much gone and I have no clue if napa has a double flange to buy if it IS to loud and i have to put it back.
Thanks for any help!

I have no muffler on my truck right now and it currently dumps right in the middle of nowhere. I have a ypipe then my 02 sensor then my cat then nothing.. Where do you plan on cutting the exhaust off at? bcuz i never even cut my exhaust and i can always put it right back on without doing any modding or anything, it just slides over my other pipe.....

The two pipes come off the exhaust manifold and gather at the right of the car. One cat is on the left pipe about a foot before the other pipe gets a cat. Right where the second cat is there is a double flange (both pipes) which connects to a 2 in 1 out muffler.
I was thinking about just unbolting it. The Exhaust would left out under the floor between the front passenger and rear passenger seat.
Theres an o2 sensor on the pipe connected to the muffler right after the flange.

Is it dual up until the muffler like i have?? I have a 96 hoe.

Ya Id think it would slide off like you said but it doesnt look like it. Where does it slide apart??Is there a seam you can see? If there is on mine that would make it SOOO much easier, just unbolt a hanger or two and pull the muffler off.

Sounds like my setup with the flange..you should be able to unbolt the flange and take the whole muffler and the rest off.
Its going to be loud.

the O2 sensor.. not sure what to tell you about that.

You can easily weld on new bungs for O2 sensors. They are readily available. It's a good idea to mark the spot on the pipe, making sure there is clearance for the wires, then take it down and weld the bung on, then drill it out.

It's best to have the O2's at 9 to 11 or 1 to 3 o'clock position on the pipe. Never at the 6 o'clock position. ;)
