My rearview mirror thermometer began showing wildly inaccurate temp readings recently. And for the past 2 weeks it just shows "OC".

Any ideas on fixing this myself?

I'd just take it to the dealer but I'm growing quite fond of the $300 in my checking account.

My '00 Tahoe 5.3L did the same thing.

Seems the plug at the back of the mirror worked loose and was not fully inserted.

I messed with it a bit, and put it in good, and it went back to normal.

Hope that helps -

Well I tried disconnecting the wire bundle then reconnecting with a good push. No luck.

Any other ideas out there. There must be a way to fix this myself.

Indeed it looks like a need a new one.

Do I need to replace the whole mirror or can I just get the sensor itself, wherever that is? Anybody know where I can find something like this (besides the dealership)?

Have any good local wrecking yards close by that you can check?

I'm not sure if you can call it a city, but I'm in St. Albans, VT, about 30 min North of Burlington.

I'm all for the junkyard route. With this problem I just don't exactly what I should be asking for. I'd love to see a diagram of it's components (sensor, wiring, mirror etc)

I'd start with the whole mirror assm., and work backwards from there. I doubt they'd piece a mirror assm. out though.

By the way, some of the folks on the board have repaired their Auto 4WD dash switches by resoldering some of the connectors on the back panel circuit board of the switch unit. I wonder if that would work for you, assuming you can get the mirror apart and get to the circuit board inside of it. Just a thought...
