My 2000 Tahoe has what looks like a liftable rear window. I've tried and tried and can't get it to open. It looks like it is set up to lift but may be stuck. It even has a key hole that twists that appears to "unlock" the window. Can someone tell me if this is even possible to lift the rear window.

You're talking about the 2000+ "new" style and not the 2000 Z71 or Limited like the 95-99 models, right?

If you have the liftgate, you just push that button in on the back of the tailgate and it pops the glass open. Unlocking the doors will unlock it, so maybe it's jammed stuck or something. It shouldn't be hard to open.

Yes it is the 2000 "new" style, not the Z71 or limited. The key fits into the button but the window doesn't pop open. I was a little worried to force it but maybe it really stuck on there. The only thing i noticed id there is no pnematic lifters on the window itself, only on the tailgate. I will try giving it a little love tap and see what happens. Thanks for the quick answer east302

We have a 2003 which is the same. When you push the button in you'll hear it "click" and you can pull the glass open. Do you hear anything when you push the button in?

Now that I think about it, the glass kind of sticks against the seal sometimes. You might try sliding a thin popsicle stick or something like that in between the glass and weatherstripping. You'll have to do that from the inside probably. Might help loosen it up.

The window struts are on the inside so you can't see them unless the glass is open.

I've tried to attach a picture of one I found on ebay so you can see what I mean. It's from a 2003 I think.

I took off the trim on the rear tailgate and got to the lock mechanism. I can now open the window manually but the lock appears to be broken. Does anyone know if this is a do it yourself replacement or if I need to service the truck.

I imagine you can replace it yourself after taking off the panels. It's probably a dealer-only part...you might drop by a dealer, point to the part and see how much it is.

I saw part number 15808595 on gmpartsdirect.com that may be the latch you're looking for. I think it was $150 with shipping. But you can probably find a part number on your existing lock.
