My ' 99Tahoe 2WD has had the classic rear end clunk after a full stop and while taking off from a dead stop. I've greased the slip yoke and rear u joint before and it helped some, but did not completely fix it.
This morning I think I got it nailed. While I had it up on jack stands, I noticed gap in between the rear leaf springs, so I shot those with the spray can of white lithium grease. Front to back, in between all the leafs.
Man did that help! It drives very nice now. I think everytime I change the oil I will be shooting some grease in there. May need it after every good rain too, but it is worth it.
