Hi all, is it common to see the rear AC lines leak out the coolant (see picture)? The garage is telling me it is common there. Do I need a leak detection kit to diagnose this, or is there another way? Since the AC is blowing warm air, and the garage said it has a leak, I assume I can disconnect this fitting since the refrigerant has already leaked out.
Thanks!

Anyways, no replies. So I bought all the gear and found the leak, pic attached. Garage said they seen this before...I think it's a design flaw, but can't say for sure since this corrosion was under a grommet/hanger, and none of the others leak, but who knows, could be like it under all the hangers.

A/C coolant leaks are not normal and unhealthy to the people inside the car.
Thanks for the pictures and follow up on your A/C problem.

Question for you, how much air flow do you get out of the rear air vents? I can hear the rear fan blowing hard but don't seem to get a lot of air out of the vents.:(

Thanks,
Craig

Hi Calicajun, I get plenty of air flow, before and after the problem. I think air flow is a separate issue from coolant leak?

I'm sure my air flow problem has nothing to do with a coolant leak. Your post just seemed like a good place to ask the question about air flow.

Thanks for the response to my question. :)

there are coolant lines going all the way to the rear for the rear heater core for your rear heat. which is why there was coolant there. if you look closely there are 2 sets of lines. one feed/return for the freon and engine coolant.

and i believe it is common in the salt areas

@calicajun.. chances are if you have poor air flow through the rear top vents is that the air ducts are separating from the headliner creating a huge air leak.. unfortunately you need to drop the headliner and re glue it with a good heat resistant adhesive so it with stands the heat from the heater

Make sense but the Tahoe is only a year old, will look into that as it is still under the factory warranty.

We have a 2013 1500 Tahoe LT with luxury package, sun and sand package duel climate control system with rear controls. Not sure what you mean by HVAC system?

HVAC.. Heater Ventelation Air Conditioning system.. I can tell you what to look for but you don't want to mess with if its still under warranty or what is your objective here have you taken it in for that concern already or whats the deal ?

I will be taken the Tahoe into a dealer but would be nice to know what to look for with this problem.

Thanks,

Well you don't want to dig into it yourself if you break something and or take in to the dealer and they see that someone has been in there they will not warranty it.. but what I can tell you are some possibilities.. a restriction at the rear fan air intake vent... if you have little air flow being drawn into the blower motor little will blow out.. a broken and or a restricted mode door valve... which is the air distribution door for directing to the upper and or lower vents
