1996 Tahoe 4wd 5.7 and just under 100k miles. Damage to radiator (valet parking at a job. leave it with the valet they said. it will be fine they said) cracked transmission cooling line and fluids exchanged between transmission and radiator (oil in water and some water in transmission oil). Wife borrowed tahoe when insufficient water in radiator and ran it hot until it stopped. Had head gasket changed and radiator fixed. Changed oil and filter. Had complete transmission oil exchange. Tahoe started to misfire (knock) and it is much worse when idling in drive at a light than when driving, but still get knocks when driving. It is not as bad when idling in neutral. Changed plugs but no help. Checked wires and they all go to the right plug from the right electronic ignition point. Put octane booster in fuel. Nothing helps.

Check engine light comes on. Sometimes it flashes but mostly a constant light.

Do I take off the saddle and shoot it? I am thinking it might be the electronic ignition. Is there a machine that can test that device on the vehicle?

Thanks! All ideas welcome!
