I have a 2001 tahoe ls and i want to put an aftermarket radio in. I matched up all the wires correctly with a metra 80-1858 wire harness but i dont get any sound out of the radio, it just powers up but no sound comes out. Could there be a factory amplifier in the car?

I believe there is an Amp. I have an 01 LT and when I was at the shop getting my HU put in they mentioned something about having to bypass a stock amp.

There is an amp, but it does not need to be bypassed. You should have sound if all the wires are connected properly. On some models there is a pink wire in the secondary harness that turns on the amp. Try that and see if that works.

Hmm. Do you know why they would have bypassed mine? Would it be because they are using the amp in my HU? i guess the guy at the shop could have said bypassed but meant something else as well :confused2:

That wire in the harness you unplugged and don't need powers up something.. I'm going to go look for it right now but that's what kept my JVC HD radio in my 2000 Tahoe from going until I hooked it up....

the system is amplified, theres a factory subwoofer in the back so im thinking i have to tape the remote turn on wire to the orange wire (which is the factory amp turn on wire). This is just temporarily because i will take all the factory speakers out and add a couple amps, by that time i will have to bypass the factory amp.

Actually I think it is because you need that PAC 01 adapter. Do you have Onstar in your Tahoe? You need that adapter I believe to get sound out of your radio or I think you have to do some more splicing. We tried to get it to work in a buddies Tahoe and we couldn't get sound out of the speakers without the adapter. This is if you have Onstar.

You only need this adapter if you want to keep the On-star functional up to the '02 model years. If you don't have On-star or don't care to have it active, you can go with the standard 21-pin harness like the Metra 1858.

We have tried the standard plug adapter and no dice. We couldn't get sound through the speakers. The only way it would work is to get that PAC adapter. This was a tahoe with onstar and without the Bose system. I am not saying you are wrong JKmotorsports, but we couldn't get it to work otherwise.

it could be the remote off your stereo aswell somethimes they do burn out if your not carefull during the deinstall try getting another remote or straight power to bypass it (hook up the power to the blue wire in the harness) see if that gives you any sound if it does then your amp remote power isnt working right

thanks for the help guys. I ran new speaker wires from the speakers to my 4ch amp already so it solved the problem.
