well im new here fellas i have a question regarding the cat. Ive got po430 code.I here a rattle in my pipes. and one of the catlytic has burned discoloration on it.my pops says its the cat. i'm just wondering if anybody has notice that on theirs before changing them. thanks any awnsers will be apreciated.

P0430 Basically this means that the oxygen sensor downstream of the catalytic converter on bank 2 is detecting that the converter is not working as efficiently as it should be (according to specs). It is part of the vehicle emissions system.

You will likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a rough/hard idle when cold

A code P0430 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

The catalytic converter is no longer functioning properly
An oxygen sensor is not reading (functioning) properly
There is an exhaust leak

First, inspect for exhaust leaks.

Next step is to measure the voltage at the oxygen sensor on Bank 2. In fact, it would be a good idea to test each oxygen O2 sensor while you're at it.

One thing to note is that many vehicle manufacturers offer a longer warranty on emissions-related parts. So if you have a newer car but it's out of it's bumper-to-bumper warranty, there still may be warranty on this type of problem. Many manufacturers give a five year, unlimited mileage warranty on these items. It's worth checking into.

Are there any "how-to's" on replacing the downstream Oxygen sensors? My check engine light is on and I had a code pulled that indicated the Bank 2, Sensor 2 was bad. Looks like it is a $74 part so I just want to make sure it's not terribly difficult to replace.

They are not difficult to replace. You'll need an O2 sensor socket and some penetrating lube.

Can you provide any helpful pics of where the O2 sensors are located? I would not know exactly what I am looking for when it comes to these things. Can you provide further explanation on exactly what I need to do?

i think the one you need to replace is the one next to the cat. converter. youll need an O2 sensor socket. its a regular deep well socket but its got a grove cut out of it. your looking for a single 'wire' sensor tapped directly into your exhaust pipe. its usually rusted on pretty good, thats why its recommended that you spray it with lube first. i usually spray it down, let it set in for a good 10 min. and then turn it out.
