Holy crap. I have spent the day trying to figure out what is wrong with my a/c. I could already tell from the sound it was just air damming up. why I dont know. I though was door was jammed so the airflow wasnt great. No big deal to fix right?? no .

well first of all I have no clue what im doing and im just pulling stuff apart that looks like it needs to as logically as possible. I got the fan out and just from that i can tell one of the cores (whether its heater or a/c i dont know) is completely jammed with stuff.

So i went at getting stuff off around it to try and get it out. It took forever to get the bottom piece out from under the other core but i got it. I took off the little motor that operates the door so i could move it freely. I have every possible screw i can find out but this thing will not budge. Im trying to get the entire box around the two cores out but it acts as if its riveted to the ****ing firewall. I have no clue how to get this stuff out and whther or not i need to empy out the water and freon first.

Sorry this is so long and probably mising stuff, im kinda pissed right now. Btw im talking about the inside Right side of the dash in the car to clear anything up.

that what i thought but i watched it and it definitely moves when i change from cold to hot.

i found the culprit. The Heater core is completely full of crap. You can see up the duct from where the fan usually is and its just totally clogged in the front.
I either need to find some high pressure air i can blow all the stuff out with or get the heater core out. The thing is...i have no Effing clue how to get it out. A. Water will go everywhere and B theres a huge black box thats stuck to the firewall to get around.
I would love to actually get it out and clean it if any of you can tell me how to take it out but i have no access to it right now.( Btw i cant make the car undriveable for any more than a day.

pretty sure you have to pull the dash. (atleast thats what i was told when a buddy's dad swapped the heater core in his 97 extended cab)

nah ive done that before and it doenst really grant any extra access. The problem im having is the whole system acts like its connected to the damn firewall andi have no way of removing it. Not to mention theres these little thing that look like whole, it looks like instead of a bolt or something they jsut melted the damn plastic together.

did you disconnect the heater hoses on the firewall? or are you just trying to pull the box out around the heater core.

Theres a bunch of screw on the box around it. I took them all out and i can pull the outer edge down about half and inch. Everything after that is just prying and the plastic flexing. It feels really solid like its still attached at the firewall or something. Emptying out the water and freon isnt a problem or whatever its just that box is being a bitch to get out right now. I was told it would take like 2 weeks to do the whole thing if i dont figure out a way to just blow the heater core clean but i think thats bs. I rigged a couple High pressure tanks i use for paintball so i MIGHT be able to blow it out but itd really really like to actually take it out to clean. thx

ok. sounds like you have 2 screws left to get out of that box.

waaaay in the back of the box. beyond where any tool can reach, there is a screw. you will need a flexible 7mm tool to reach in there. it will be right at the floor/firewall area. you may be able to reach your hand in there to feel it. flex tool. this is a pain...
there may also be one screw in a standoff in the middle (back-middle) of the box. this may just look like a hole in the bottom of the box, but up inside is a screw. check around and see if you have that. you may need a small mirror and a flashlight to see these last screws...
I took off a heater core of a 1994 sub yesterday.. almost all the screws were on the perimeter of the box. 6 to be exact. the 7th screw was in the middle-back of the box.
I base my advice on this, and I hope yours is similar.

find the heater hose that goes from the intake to the core, and clamp it closed with a long needle nose vice grip. same with the hose that goes to the radiator. you should only lose about 2 quarts of fluid from the core itself when you take it out. disconnect those hoses and it should just pull through the firewall grommets.

lol ok so i got the condenser and heater core mixed up. Jeez , must have thought i was dumb not being able to get to the heater core (which i had long ago) its really easy to access. The Ac condenser...eh not so much. Anyways the problem was the WHOLE front of it was filled with lint, hair, leaves, and everything else in existence including Fantasy Fest Beads. Since Air from the blower goes through it there has been basiclly no air sincei got the car.
I emptied out a can of oven cleaner, 512, and let it sit. I flushed it out with a hose a bunch of times while scrubbing with a toothbrush and pulling the stuff out as best i could (its a pretty small space). I got it MOSTLY out but it was so stuffed up it doesnt matter how much really.
The difference is AMAZING. When i turned the car on i could actually feel air blowing at me. That was after fixing the dumbass viper alarm that wouldnt let me start the car and put all the turn signals on lol.
This is fantastic. Only thing now is i found out my radiator is leaking and my Water pump probably went bad. ( long story some antifreexe stuff that destroys you system, Already happend to the bronco and same thing happened to it).
Thanks everyone for the help and advice. Now IM IN FLORIDA AND HAVE AIR CONDITIONING. AMAZING!
