these are mine. i took my bowties off and took them to a friends body shop he charged me $50 to paint them both they used the exact summit white color code and clear coated it several times( perfect match). the front one comes off by removing two 10 mm speed nuts right behind the grill. the rear was another story. i used a hair dryer and a credit card to remove it. i wanted to keep the chrome border so thats what i did. if you decide to go this route be very very patient when removing the rear bow tie. keep heating up and sliding the credit card behind the bowtie.

I've done them both on a Chevy and 2 GMC's. The Chevy's are alot easier! Do like LVMS said, the front his held in by screws behind the grill and the amber bowtie comes out leaving the chrome bezel behind. The rear is a different story, you have to try and seperate the Amber portion from the chrome bezel with a heat gun and a credit card (Like LVMS described), but you have to be REALLY careful b/c the bowtie will want to crack on you. Once removed you can take them to a body shop and have them painted or do them yourself. I've always done mine myself. No sanding, just a couple of coats of adhesion promoter, couple coats of primer, couple coats of color, then a couple of clear. The adhesion promoter is the key! If you just use a primer it will chip ALOT easier.
On my GMC, you can remove it from the grill on the front as well but you can't remove it from the bezel. I taped the chrome off very carefully then followed the same painting procedure above. I just left the emblem on the rear and masked it off on the vehicle and followed the same painting steps.
Here's my GMC emblem on my Denali:
