I just painted one for an aquaintance, you really don't have to take the bumper and grill off. I just taped off the bowtie, then used painters paper to cover the bumper and grill and painted (well I prepped, prepped more, painted, then finished). It looks like I took the bumper and grill off but I didn't have to, the only difference is you have to have something to sit on to do all the prep work instead of having it a table. Good Luck :Chevy:

I replaced mine with a chrome billet one but I started by removing the four bolts with held the top of the grille in, bent it forward, reached behind and removed the two nuts that hold the bowtie on. You can try to use a 10mm wrench but I was able to loosen them by hand. Then carefully pry it loose. try not to break it.

The back one is a real PITA - fishing line, heat gun/blow dryer, old credit card, and some elbow grease/goop gone to remove the excess adhesive left behind.

I have heard that you can peel the gold off too and you're left with just the silver bowtie but I just replaced them with chrome ones.

I painted my GMC emblem a lil while back. Came out great and does a lot for the look of the truck. I hated the red emblem, looked like a red nose on a clown or something like that. :jester:
