Hello everyone, I am a newbie to this forum. I am in the process of possibly purchasing my first GMC. It is a 2001 XL SLT package. It currently has 71,000 mi on it and was owned by an older couple. It is looking like I am going to pick it up for the $10K mark. What is your opinions on this particular year and model? Anything I need to look out for or take care after purchase? Should I spend the extra money to get a factory backed 30K mi warranty? Finally, I was checking out the Hypertech 32000 max energy programmer and wanted to know if it was worth the money? Thanks everyone for you help!

10K aint bad at all. I would change the fuel filter and run a top end clean. Also grease all the zerks and change the oil to synthetic (if not already changed). Check spark plugs and and air filters.

I wouldnt waste my money on a programmer nor the factory warranty, but to every man their own.

I believe the fuel filter (on an 01) is located on the driver's side along the inside of the frame rail.

For top end clean I use Seafoam in the brake booster. Not sure if there is a write up here but I am sure that Google would come up with a ton of hits on "Seafoam".
