Coming up on the end of my complimentary 1 yr subscription to OnStar and they asked me to renew it for $16-17 /mo. I told them no thanks and then they offere $12-13 /mo. I said keep going down to $10 and you got yourself a deal which they could not do.

I was bargaining just to bargain but really haven't even used it. I've got Nav, I've got a cell phone - what else I need it for. Oh yeah, airbag deployment for emergencies? Yeah that's nice but necessary - I mean 99.9% of us have been driving for eons without this service and....

So is there another reason that I'm missing because if so, I have no problem going back and "renewing" my OnStar

I just pay the safety/security fee, since I wasn't using directions, etc much. (Is that $12 a month now, I'm not sure?)

It was worth it for me when I accidentally locked my purse and my 2-yr old in the car. Getting a police officer or a locksmith could have taken a while. ONSTAR had it unlocked as fast as I could borrow a cell phone to call them.

I also like the "red button" in case I have an emergency; in a real emergency is no time to be trying to give directions over a cell phone, especially if you are in unfamiliar territory. I just wish they would make the red button to function when the car power is turned off, which I don't think it currently does.

I'm on my free subscription too. But couldn't one just NOT subscribe, but when you need it during an emergency just press the ONSTAR button and subscribe for that month?

i guess that's better than the busy signal you get from dialing 911 because of all the indigent people using ambulances for a taxi ride to their doctor's appt :mad2:
