Ok. Let's say the yellow/blk wire is the existing wire you're splicing into and the red wire is the one you are adding. Strip back about 1/2" of insulation on the existing wire. Strip back the end of the wire you are adding about 1/2" also. Now slip a piece of heat shrink ( about 1") over the new wire.
Now wrap the stripped end of the new wire around the existing wire and solder. After you solder the wires together, slip the heatshrink over the exposed soldered splice. Heat up the heatshrink with a heatgun or even a lighter. That's it.
When you are soldering, put the tip of the iron on the wire and hold it there for about 5 seconds or so. This will let the wire heat up and take on the solder better. While holding the iron against the wire, apply solder to the wire and let it flow into the strands of the wire. Don't put alot to make a big blob. Just use enough solder until it flows into the strands and covers the joint.
