Well today my oil pump went south. Weird thing is I drove it home(running fine) parked it in the driveway got back in it about an hour later started it and was backing down the drive when it started dinging saying low oil pressure. So I shut it down right away. Then I thought Hmmm? maybe a bad cluster gauge or sending unit so I started it back up and parked it back in the driveway and thats when I started hearing the lifters rattle so I shut it off. This is really strange for it to just quit usually they slowly loose pressure until nothing. This was like some little gremlin got in their and messed with my pump. Any opinions on this? I think it will be pretty easy to change the pump the pan is easy to get to. Stupid oil pump is a $115 dollars though. Now I know the pump has some kind of oil pressure relief spring and I know the pickup tube has an oring which I will replace with a viton oil ring. So if it's just that then I might as well replace the pump since I have it off anyways. Maybe I will replace the rod bearings as well or should I leave them be? Tahoe has 118,000 miles on it. Opinions........
