Before I have to do an oil change I wanted to ask: Since I plan on keeping the truck stock, and virtually no mods to anything (performance wise), I'd be smart to just use the oil that is recommended along with the same oil filter that was originally on it as well right? I'm a 90% highway driver, in southern cal and you know summers can be quite hot here.

Well.......yes

5W30...but you can use a different filter then just the factory one. bobtheoilguy.com is a great resource for oil and oil filters. I use 5W30 Mobil1 and change it every 5K.

I use Royal Purple oil and K&N Gold oil filter. 4x4 mag did a study on the K&N filter and they rated it one of the best. I've had no problems so far.
