i would run what ever the last owner put in it as once you have gone synthetic you can't go back to dino oil.

Curious, Why not?

That's an urban legend. It's a holdover from the old days when you could get non-detergent oil. Once an engine had used non-detergent oil for a significant number of miles, it was said that you shouldn't switch to a detergent oil because it would clean out all of the built up crud and the seals/gaskets would start to leak. There's also a group that holds you shouldn't break-in a new engine with synthetic. But as you may know, Corvettes have come from the factory since 1990 w/ Mobil 1 in them.

Use the weight specified in the owner's manual. A lot of folks switched to synthetic at the first oil change.

I'm part of that group, on a new car I usaully wait until the frist oil change is due then I make the big switch to Mobil 1 5w-30. run it for 3000-5000 miles change it out then after that I use then Extended interval (12,000-15,000). why? I sleep better at night.

How is doing the oil change on the Tahoes? Filter easy to get to? I assume it is identical/similar to my Silverado with the 5.3. My truck is a piece of cake, is there enough clearance to get under without jacking it up?

I changed the oil on it. I had to put it on some rhino ramps for an easier change. Quick and easy just like mustangs. :D
