I've brought my tahoe in to a GM repair shop the past few times, so they use A/C Delco filter and which ever oil GM uses. 5w-30

Valvoline oil, and been using Motorcraft filters lately. Looks like the last Chevy dealer we took it to used Motorcraft too interestingly enough.

Every 3000 miles. Usually Valvoline 5W-30 and whatever oil filter they use at the Valvoline oil change centers. I only have the oil changed at the Chevy dealership when I'm having other work done. I don't like the fact that they use 10W-30 at the dealer when the owners manual recommends 5W-30.

Quaker State 5W30 and Purolator filters. I actually was amazed to see how small the filter is!

Follow on oil question...

I have had my Tahoe for a couple weeks and it is the first vehicle with the "oil life" indicator. Do you all go by that indicator, or just track the time/mileage between changes?

I got the service history with my rig (a 2003 with 48k miles) and it averaged 3,858 miles and 4.6 months between oil changes.

I don't put many miles on (maybe 7k/year) and so I'm not thinking about oil changes very frequently. My plan was to rely on the computer to tell me when to change.

The parameters used in GM's Oil Life monitoring system actually do a good job, according to some tests and reviews I've read. It takes into account not only the mileage, but other factors like operating temp, length of time, eng load, etc.

I buy them both at work, costs me about $4.25/qt and $7 for the filter, I've seen bulk packs on ebay for cheap tho.
