The parameters used in GM's Oil Life monitoring system actually do a good job, according to some tests and reviews I've read. It takes into account not only the mileage, but other factors like operating temp, length of time, eng load, etc.I have had my Tahoe for a couple weeks and it is the first vehicle with the "oil life" indicator. Do you all go by that indicator, or just track the time/mileage between changes?
I got the service history with my rig (a 2003 with 48k miles) and it averaged 3,858 miles and 4.6 months between oil changes.
I don't put many miles on (maybe 7k/year) and so I'm not thinking about oil changes very frequently. My plan was to rely on the computer to tell me when to change.
Royal purple and k&n gold filter every 5k for my 6.0, runs nice and healthy.
