obd II with laptop

does anyone use a laptop to scan their vehicle, if so what program are you using. i've looked into auterra and elm. are their others out there? which seems to be the better one? im leaning towards the auterra.

i was really inqiring about the auterra, elm, pc softwares that turn your laptop into a scanning device.
