I have a 96 2dr hoe and i just replaced the lower intake manifold gasket. i had no issues with that but when i went to start the truck i had no spark. i have spark at the coil, but not at the plugs. i assume that it is either the disbutor because the cap and rotor still looked in good condition. the truck has about 150,xxx, just wondering if there could be something else that would be giving me this issue.

If you have spark at the coil and not at the plugs, it's plain and simple your cap-rotor, or your wires.

still not starting

i just got done putting on new wires, cap and rotor, still no spark. so i am going to test the crank position senor and the cam position senor, before i run out and get a distributor. any other suggestions or ideas? before i changed the intake manifold gasket, the truck ran fine and i always stayed on top of tune-ups. any other ideas please let me know.

If you have good spark at the coil your crank sensor is fine. The cam sensor is in the dist. Are you saying you have just done the intake gasket and now it won't run? If that's the case you have the dist. in a couple of teeth off. I will guarantee that the dist. isn't the problem, all it is is a housing. Pull the #1 spark plug and bring it up to top dead center compression. Now pull off the cap and see if the rotor points to the #1 terminal. If it doesn't you'll have to pull the dist. and move it until it does. When you're all done with that and it is running, you'll have to go to someone that has a tech 2 and have them set the cam offset (it's just like setting the timing, but you need the scan tool instead of a timing light). I've done a few trucks with your same problem (diys'ers don't know about the cam offset and the truck won't start or runs terrible).

yeah the distributor isnt aligned properly and needs to be rotated back to its original position.

cripes... what a pain. Jiminey mentioned this to me when he did my intake. he marked the distributor with a white marker, so he could avoid this very thing. Sorry I didnt think of that on my first post.
