Guys, I'm a newbie and need help! I own a 98 2door Tahoe with 36K miles on it - that's not a typo. Bought it with 14K. Showroom condition (pics coming later) and have browsed this site since I've owned it.

Need help. Did a $975 brake job at dealership in Nov. Replaced 3 cylinders and $432 labor (details below). They said there was contamination in the fluid from an unknown source. Had to bring it back 3 weeks later for same issue - they bled the line again.

Now the contamination has come back, they don't know how/where from. They want to charge me $1,450 for another repair to similar parts (details below). Are they bending me over or is this just a mild raping? Is this the best I can do given this is a serious problem, or is there another type of shop that could do this work for significantly less? I'm in Atlanta.

FIRST JOB
(1) 18029967 - F-CYLINDER $270
(2) 19213347 CYLINDER $146
LABOR @ $110/HR $473

SECOND JOB
Just a bleeding 3 weeks after 1st job

PROPOSED JOB
19176102 - MASTER CYLINDER $155
12475489 - EBCM VALVE $525
(3) NAPA-MADE BRAKE HOSES $135
BRAKE SYSTEM FLUSH FLUID $32
6.9 HOURS @ $80/HR $552

SUMMARY - is the dealership my best bet for this work b/c of the discount and they owe me a little something? Or are they screwing me so bad still I should take it elsewhere? Thanks

:welcome:and you could not have said it any better.

It's evident that this vehicle has been setting a lot since the low mileage. But in no way should you have 3 out of four wheel cylinders bad enough that they could not be honed and new kit's installed @ far less money. You have BEEN HAD by the dealer. Stay out of there, it has become PARTS REPLACER'S rather than a good old mechanic, which in turn is more profit in their pocket staright from your pocket.
Anyhow, welcome and jump in anytime, we're glad to have you, and please post the photo's soon. I have a 99 4dr LS 2wd, all original southern, non smoker school teacher, and garaged since new, and bright red, what a vehicle, it tissued for just over 32k new, I got the window sticker with it. Good luck.

Thanks David. Sounds like you have quite a gem. You're right about the problems becuase of it sitting...but I've had SO MANY in the last 10K miles I'm starting to wonder...

Im going to take your advice and (try to) stay out of the stealership. Im going to at least get a 2nd or 3rd opinion.

I confess that I am not even to novice level with mechanical stuff - I'm not skilled at all so I don't really undersand much of this lingo but I'm learning.

B/c the dealer cant identify the source of this contamination, they want to overhaul the whole thing to erase any doubt. Im not sold that's the only option. I see you're not too far from me - any shops you would recommend?

The attached pics were at 14K when I got it - for alll intents and purposes, it looks the same...I'll post a new thread with all the pics here soon
