Going to look at a 97 lt with 148k on it today. Had tranny replaced at about14k ago. Ill find out more when I look at it. My question is should I let the bad reviews I have been reading influence my decision? It will be for my wife and we have a handicapped child we have to transport and I dont want something I can't rely on.

Welcome to the neighborhood!

In a nutshell, no. Every truck is different, some are great and never have issues and a few are lemons that are always being worked on. The same is true with just about any make model of vehicle. To attempt to avoid a lemon, request to take it to a trusted mechanic to have it checked out good throughout. Whether the vehicle has been maintained properly should be readily apparent. If you have ANY doubts, don't get it. It would also be a good idea to take the VIN# to a local dealer and ask the service department for a copy of the VIS report. This should show you the history of dealer performed servicing and earranty repairs. Looking at that report will give you a good idea of the problems mechanically that the truck may or may not have had in the past. And of course, it is always a good idea to get a carfax report just to make sure it hasn't had major accident repairs that could result in issues later.
