Been posting for a few days, thought I'd formally introduce myself and my tahoe. Names Kelly (or smelly as everybody calls me). Got my Tahoe about 3 weeks ago. I work at a Pontiac, Buick, Gmc, Cadillac dealership as a service writer. I'll try to help out around here with any tech questions.
Now the Tahoe. Traded in by dog lady. 2001 with 57,000 miles, it had a broken mirror on the passenger side and needed the serpentine belt. New michelins on it already. Smelled like she bathed her dogs in it everyday. Still working on getting the smell out, suggestions appreciated.
I've taken off an ugly pinstripe and the LS stickers. Also took off the crossbars on the luggage rack. Give me some suggestions guys. What do you think?

Getting the smell out? Baking soda is the best imo. I'm the 2nd driver of my Yukon, and when I got it, the dealer put these smelly gel things in all of the A/C vents. I pulled out all of them and the truck still reaked. So I filled up the ash tray with baking soda. It absorbs all smells. I prefer it because all of those California car scent things might get out the bad smells, but i hate that fruit smell afterwards.

I would use meguiars leather cleaner & conditioner. I use to wax and detail classic cars (hudsons') this stuff works miracles!

actually my 2 year old daughter fell and got a 1/2 in Lac in her scalp, and she bled on my seat as I was driving her to the ER

Nice deal on the Tahoe!

To get rid of the smells, have you tried charcoal? It'll absorb all sorts of nasty smells. You can either go to a pet supply store and get charcoal chips (for aquarium filters), or get the briquettes and break them up. Either way, get some old pantyhose (don't laugh, it works!), and make little "sachets" out of them and put them under the seats. Start by changing them out every couple days.

Kinda the same thing as the Baking Soda in the ashtray, but this way it's out of sight. I did it a couple years ago on a Saturn I had, and it got all the cigarette smoke out!
