need help finding REAR pads and rotors...

sup yall,

i have a 99 4 door 4x4 tahoe and im about to throw some 24s on it but i want to replace the rear brakes and pads as i have already replaced the front ones.
but i cant find none anywhere online...
can some1 point me in the right direction?

and does the drum have to stay on?
if so i might as well replace that too

for 24s you may need more stopping power. Look at the rear disc conversion.

other than that, you can do the rear brake repairs without replacing the drum, its the shoes inside that need the replacing. your local parts stor sould have them laying all over the place becuase they fit lots of chevy and GM trucks.

ya... and when re-placing the rear pads.. just go ahead and take off both wheels, and both drums, than leave one side completly intact take the other side apart, and put the new pads on, then use the other side as a reference as to where everything goes... i hate doing drum brakes.. don't forgot to adjust the brakes back out with the peice at the very bottom of the brakes that has a turn wheel on it, turn it with a screw driver, or your thumb which ever you prefer, don't turn it so far that you can't get the drum back on tho

Brake shoes - yes, of course
Drum – only is it has groves or really glaze, unless you want new drums
Spring kit – it’s nice to change out with new ones, but usually can reuse existing ones.

Drums aren’t hard to do, but discs are easier. Just keep track of what came from where. Listen to GMCYukalade he is giving you some good points to follow. It might help if you use a Chilton's Auto Repair Manual or something like it. If you don’t know how to change rear drum brakes get some help.

i was just gonna keep the brake drums already on and get them painted and sanded.
this a bad idea?

and is there a certain brand of brake shoes to lean towards thats better than others....

nah, thats not a bad idea - they will be hard to sand tho.. they tend to rust pretty easy.. - u can keep the drums that are on it, if the break pads inside have hit metal, and the drums are grooved, you can have them turned at any break shop.. new ones at autozone run around 48 bux a peice.. - Your Rear Breaks do help you stop, but the majority of your stopping power is in the front - my 99 Kon i just replaced the rear-end, i got one out of a junk yard.. was pretty rusty.. when i tryed to bleed the breaks the bleeder just broke off.. but, i have good pedal even tho it is just front breaks.. so i don't use my rear at all - sucks if you have to stop fast.. - but, there is a piston on the inside of the drums, i just need to replace both of them, so i can have new bleeders... - if you have money left to spend, and want excellent stoping power, really consider switching to disks in the back - remember the 24s are gonna add alot of weight - my 20s are atleast 50lbs a peice.. - and you can def. feel the differance between stock and aftermarket - as far as what pads to get.. you can try the carbon.. but, they are expensive.. - the only brake shoes i see on autozone are duralast and valucraft.. with the duralast having a lifetime warranty

Please don’t use duralast, they are cheap for one reason, they are cheap. Try using Bendix shoes or even a high performance shoe. Yes rear disc conversion would be the best for stopping power, but is also the priciest. If you’re going to spend some money on your brake system, put it in the front brakes, since they do about 70% of your stopping. If you are going to paint your existing drums see about getting them sand blasted.

And GMCYukalade what are you crazy drive around with only front breaks? New rear wheel cylinders are only about $25 each and take less than an hour to change both.

I know how much the cylinders cost.. and i know how to change them.. But as you stated.. the front brakes do 70% of your stopping, right now.. mine are doing 100% of my stopping.. i've been working on the truck for the last three weeks, already dumped about $1200 into it.. trust me.. i will get on the cylinders soon..

just make sure the parking brake is off. I beat my drum for a hour till I figured it out.
