Need help choosing gear ratio for new 2011???

Guys, buying a new LTZ... Not sure if I need to get heavy duty towing since I'll tow my chevelle 1-2x year.... What gear, 3.08 or 3.42 for about 15k miles per year mix of highway and town driving in Chicagoland...thanks!!!!

I'm just going to say this up front. I personally don't know. With that, I can say that I have the standard package ltz and never had any problems pulling anything. Anything being a 80 KW cat generator (which weighs more than a couple of cars), and skid steers on a regular basis, near 10-15k / year. Terrain may be a factor tho.

If I had the option I would go with heavy duty, just for the hell of it. Who know, you may need it down the road....

Just bought a new '11 Tahoe LTZ. Got the heavy duty tow package which comes with the 3.42 rear axle and the trans cooler. A must if you are towing anything over 3500 lbs. i also go the integrated trailer brake controller as well. For $200 it's a bargain.

I can now safely pull up to 7000 lbs. all day, anywhere I want.
